I'll admit that I've never heard of the goldfish thing though, I did it rarely and most of the time I used minnows instead.

We finally found what looks like the 'rosy reds' at the pet store and thought that was great that we found fish big enough for him that are not goldfish. He's been on those for awhile now and they are bad!!?

This snake will NOT eat anything other than fish no matter how you scent it. I did a search and found something that said you should provide a Vit. Is this correct? With all the research we've done about the care of these, we've never come across anything that said you couldn't feed these minnows or thiaminase issues. According to the — Freshwater Sport Fishing Regulations, open season is all year round. Most species of snake can legally be hunted. The separated pieces of snakes and lizards may seem to be alive but they will eventually stop moving and die because their blood supply is cut.

These are also one of the best species to keep as pets though they are protected and not really legally available as a pet species as they are very docile slow snakes, and a beautiful shiny black color. They eat just about anything they can, including rattlesnakes. A few garter snakes in the garden can be a good thing.

They eat insects and other pests, so they can control those pests that harm your plants. When not resting, these snakes prefer moist, grassy areas and are often found near water, such as streams and lakes. These creatures consume everything they can, which implies that they will consume rodents of the correct size and eat larger animals. Crickets, spiders, moths, caterpillars, worms, and many other insects should be given to rough and smooth green snakes as a source of food because these insects have soft bodies and are easy to digest. Both of these snakes are related and require the most care.

The rough green snake is bigger, which requires a larger living space. Because these snakes are highly active and lack tameness and flightiness, most of these snakes are wild-caught, which makes them best suited for intermediate to advanced owners.

Earthworms are a potential source of parasite transmission, and sometimes the worms are gathered from roads, sidewalks, and golf courses following rainstorms. These worms are easy to get, but they might have some poison. Some snake species will prefer them over anything else, and most baby snakes will also prefer earthworms. If you find large, muscular worms in your yard, make sure to break them up into little pieces before feeding them to small snakes.

Because snakes want their worm prey to wiggle a little, they may overlook them if you cut them into too little pieces. Red wigglers are the worms that are used in vermicomposting and are occasionally offered as trout bait. These worms should never be used to feed a snake since they emit a yellow ooze which are poisonous to them. Worms are also calcium deficient, but there is some dispute over whether this is a reason for worry or just a precaution.

Worms are not particularly large or nutritious. Therefore, the snake must consume a large number of them to obtain adequate nourishment.

If they are solely eating worms, they will require a variety of nutrients. Snakes may also have watery feces if they eat too many worms.
