Initially the immediate target was to give an opportunity for street boys who had lost any hope in life to identify their soccer talent and earn a living through the sport. But the urge to succeed and create employment for the youth saw the club officials led by its Chairman Elly Kalekwa register the team for the Nairobi Provincial League.
Over the last fourteen years, the club has risen to become one of the top sides in the Kenyan Premier League thanks to the sound management at the club. In our first attempt, the club is now one of the most respected in the competition and has climbed to the top of the league.
Our vision is to win the competition on our debut appearance. Sofapaka is a self supporting club drawing its funds from members and gate collection. During the time the club has been in the Kenyan Premier League, it has continued to attract a huge fan base thanks to their performance on the pitch and the discipline of the players who act as role models to the Youth in our Society.
The club has managed to send several players to join leading clubs in Africa. VISION To become one of the most formidable and well established football clubs in the country, East Africa and the entire continent by winning all the football accolades in the competitions that we feature in and a transparent management. Batoto ba Mungu earned promotion to the top-flight in , a season they went on to win their first league title, and since then they have never been relegated from the top tier.
In Sofapaka survived relegation after they finished 14th on the table and this was after their title sponsors Blue Triangle pulled out support, but this did not stop Kalekwa from financing the team to keep them afloat. The Congolese businessman has now explained the reason he has kept supporting the team financially insisting his passion for football has pushed him to spend a fortune on the team.
I used to even train with them before I suffered a life-threatening injury. Club chairman is not just a title; we are the servants of these players.
